About TOUR DE HOKKAIDO

The Tour de Hokkaido, initially held in 1987 as the first stage race in Japan, marks the 33rd anniversary, and the 23rd as the international race registered in the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) this year.

"Stage race" is the most spectacular and popular among cycling races. This event is held as a ME 2.2 race authorized by the UCI, and is one of the greatest cycling races in Japan. Highly evaluated as an event that UCI ranking points are awarded, the race aims to provide an opportunity for Japanese leading riders striving for the world stage, to serve as an arena for training young promising riders and to develop a wide range of personnel involved with cycle road races in Japan.

This event also aims to contribute to the development of tourism and industry, the promotion of culture, the improvement of the quality of life and reinforcement of the health and physical strength of the citizens especially by capitalizing on Hokkaido's natural resources. It also strives to promote cycling sports in general and to popularize the use of bicycles in Japan.

Notices

(1) Race Operations
Preparation and operation of the race will be conducted by the "Tour de Hokkaido 2019 Executive Committee". The race operation will be conducted by the delegated official.
 
(2) Participation and Invitation Condition
The TOUR DE HOKKAIDO 2019 is open to UCI Professional Continental teams, UCI Continental teams, national teams and regional teams/club teams.
20 teams: 
5 riders and 3 team officials (team manager and others)
6 teams from overseas and 14 domestic teams. 
 
(3) Regulation
All stage races comply with UCI Regulations and Specific Regulations of the Tour de Hokkaido. The team general classification shall be calculated on the basis of the sum of the three best individual times from each team in each stage ridden.
Riders who have dropped 20 minutes behind the leading riders shall be eliminated and picked up on the sag wagon.
 
(4) Anti-doping Rules
The Anti-doping control will be conducted according to the UCI Anti-doping Rules.
 
(5) Prizes
Prizes and points will be awarded according to the 2019 UCI Financial Obligations and 2019 UCI Regulations
Stage: Individual Classification by Time and Individual Classification of Hill-Climber
Overall: General Individual Classification by Time, General Individual Classification by Points, General Individual Classification of Best Hill-Climber, General Team Classification by Time and U26 General Team Classification by Time. The winner of General Individual Classification by Time will receive Hokkaido Cup.
